Pre-loved, restored and reimagined furniture takes centre stage at Design Quarter this October, with every purchase helping support literacy and education initiatives across South Africa
There is something particularly special about a beautiful piece of furniture with a story to tell. This October, Vintage with Love is giving those stories a new chapter with the launch of its first dedicated Furniture Fest in Johannesburg.
Taking place at Design Quarter from 15–18 October 2026, the four-day event will bring together thoughtfully restored furniture, statement design and conscious shopping under the theme “Where Home Meets Heart.”
Best known for transforming donated and pre-loved fashion into funding for literacy and education initiatives, the non-profit organisation is now bringing the same philosophy into the home.

From Pre-Loved Fashion to Beautiful Interiors
For more than a decade, Vintage with Love has demonstrated that pre-loved pieces can have a powerful second life.
In 2023, that philosophy expanded beyond the wardrobe with the introduction of Décor for a Difference at the Johannesburg Big Sale. Furniture Fest takes the concept further as the organisation’s first dedicated furniture-only event.
Rather than a conventional second-hand furniture sale, shoppers can expect a curated collection of quality pieces that have been carefully selected, restored and reimagined for contemporary homes.
“This is not a traditional second-hand furniture sale,” explains Tracey Butler, Managing Director of Vintage with Love. “Furniture Fest is about seeing the potential in quality pieces and transforming them into beautiful, contemporary furniture for today’s homes. Each piece has been carefully selected for its potential, then restored, reimagined and given a new lease on life.”

Statement Fabrics Give Vintage Furniture New Life
Part of the charm lies in how the original character and craftsmanship of each piece has been preserved while introducing a contemporary perspective.
Many pieces within the collection have been expertly reupholstered using statement fabrics donated by Ardmore and other well-known fabric houses.
The result is furniture that feels fresh and relevant without losing the individuality that made it worth preserving in the first place.
It also speaks to a wider shift towards more considered consumption.
“In a world of fast consumption and throwaway culture, Furniture Fest challenges the idea that new is always better,” says Butler. “It’s about rethinking the value of what we already have. A quality piece of furniture can be restored, reimagined and re-loved rather than discarded, and in doing so, it can create an impact far beyond the home it eventually lives in.”

Furniture With a Greater Purpose
Furniture Fest is not only about finding something beautiful for the home.
As with every Vintage with Love initiative, profits are donated to a network of literacy and education-focused charities across South Africa.
It means that while a restored chair, table or statement piece may find its next home in Johannesburg, the impact of that purchase extends considerably further.
Each purchase contributes towards creating opportunities through education, giving shoppers another reason to reconsider the value of choosing pre-loved.
By bringing together interior design, craftsmanship, sustainability and social impact, Furniture Fest offers a different approach to furnishing a home – one where thoughtful design and thoughtful consumption can coexist.
Sometimes, what already exists becomes even more special when it is given the opportunity to be loved again.
