The Art of Photography exhibition gives South African photographers the chance to showcase their work along Cape Town’s iconic Sea Point Promenade

For seven years, the Sea Point Promenade Photography Competition has transformed one of Cape Town’s most famous public spaces into an open-air gallery. Instead of keeping photography inside traditional exhibition walls, the annual showcase places large-scale artworks where thousands of locals and international visitors experience them every day.

This year’s The Art of Photography theme invites photographers across South Africa to compete for R100,000 in prizeswhile earning a place in the prestigious outdoor exhibition.

A photography competition that celebrates creative vision

Over the past six exhibitions, the Orms x Canon Promenade Exhibition has highlighted South Africa’s remarkable photographic talent. Previous themes have explored wildlife, birds, movement, landscapes, macro photography and black-and-white imagery.

Now entering its seventh edition, the competition shifts the focus to a bigger question.

When does a photograph become art?

The organisers want photographers who do more than capture a moment. They are looking for artists who use composition, light, colour, perspective, timing and editing to express an idea or emotion.

Whether your work is portraiture, architecture, still life, landscape, abstract or conceptual photography, the emphasis is on intentional storytelling and a distinct creative voice.

Your work could be exhibited on the Sea Point Promenade

Twenty winning photographs will be selected for the Sea Point Promenade Photographic Exhibition, where they will be printed as large-scale A0 artworks.

The exhibition creates a public gallery featuring twenty different perspectives from South African photographers. It offers finalists the rare opportunity to move their work beyond social media and gallery walls into one of Cape Town’s busiest outdoor spaces.

How to enter the Sea Point Promenade Photography Competition

Entering is simple, and there is no limit to the number of submissions.

Entry requirements

• Submit up to five images per entry.

• Enter as many times as you like.

• Images must be in landscape orientation.

• Upload JPEG files no larger than 5MB each.

• Finalists will later be asked to provide high-resolution TIFF files.

• Watermarked images will not be accepted for final printing.

Submissions can be completed through the official entry form.
