A record fleet of 170 yachts gathered in Sardinia as Rolex, Nautor Swan and the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda celebrated more than four decades of world-class sailing, craftsmanship and camaraderie

The Rolex Swan Cup 2026 proved a triumph before the racing had even begun. A record fleet of 170 performance yachts descended on Porto Cervo, bringing together nearly 2,000 sailors for one of the international yachting calendar’s most distinctive regattas.

Held biennially for more than four decades, the Rolex Swan Cup brings together the shared values of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS), Nautor Swan and Rolex, which has served as Title Sponsor since 1984.

The result is a regatta where fierce competition on the water is matched by a rare sense of camaraderie ashore.

A Record Fleet Arrives in Porto Cervo

Long-time Rolex Testimonee and world champion sailor Paul Cayard has witnessed some of yachting’s most significant competitions throughout his career. Yet the scale of the 2026 Rolex Swan Cup left a lasting impression.

Against the spectacular backdrop of Sardinia’s Maddalena Archipelago, the fleet represented six decades of Nautor Swan craftsmanship.

The competing yachts ranged from 36 feet to an imposing 131 feet, spanning designs from the Finnish luxury yacht builder’s earliest years through to some of its newest creations, including the Swan 128.

Celebrating 60 Years of Nautor Swan

The 2026 regatta carried particular significance as Nautor Swan celebrates six decades of yacht building.

The gathering in Porto Cervo offered a fitting showcase of that heritage. Across the fleet, classic Swan yachts raced alongside contemporary performance models, demonstrating the evolution of the marque while maintaining the design principles and craftsmanship for which it has become known.

Racing throughout the week was closely contested, with four yachts emerging as the leading performers across the Maxi, Cruiser/Racer, Legacy and One Design divisions.

Gérard Logel’s Swan 601 @robas, representing France, led the Maxi category. Fernando Chain’s Swan 45 From Now Onrepresented Argentina in Cruiser/Racer, while William Graves’ Swan 44 from the United States topped the Legacy division. Hendrik Brandis’ ClubSwan 50 Earlybird delivered the standout One Design performance.

Each victory reflected the preparation, teamwork and precision demanded by racing at this level.

More Than a Regatta

While the competition remains central to the Rolex Swan Cup, its enduring appeal extends beyond results.

For Gianguido Girotti, CEO of Nautor Swan, the relationship between the three partners has helped create something larger than a traditional sailing event.

“The partnership between Rolex, the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda and Nautor Swan is one of mutual respect, the result of shared values that blend together in an incredible location and create more than just a regatta for the community of Swan owners.”

YCCS Secretary General Giorgio Benussi echoed that sentiment.

“The Rolex Swan Cup is like a family reunion. It is beautiful that it brings together so many sailors, whether friends, amateur or professional, champion or legend. It is challenging, but the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda enjoys the opportunity, and the three partners have been working together for many years to ensure it is a success on every occasion.”

That sense of community has become one of the defining characteristics of the event. Professional sailors, champions, owners and passionate amateurs share the same waters, creating a competition shaped as much by its people as its yachts.

The Pursuit of Excellence

For Cayard, achievement in sailing cannot be measured solely by trophies.

“I have been a sailor all my life and we are blessed to be on the water and in the wind chasing excellence. While you cannot win every time, you can always be learning. Whether you win or lose, weeks like the Rolex Swan Cup are a valuable part of the journey.”

It is a philosophy closely aligned with Rolex’s long-standing relationship with sailing.

Since the late 1950s, the Swiss watchmaker has supported yachting across disciplines ranging from offshore racing and prestigious yacht clubs to grand prix competition and high-performance sailing.

Today, its yachting partnerships include major international events such as the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, Rolex Fastnet Race, Rolex TP52 World Championship, Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup and Rolex Swan Cup, alongside its Title Partnership of the Rolex SailGP Championship.

For the crews who gathered in Porto Cervo, the Rolex Swan Cup 2026 was ultimately about more than crossing the finish line first.

It also marked an important milestone for Nautor Swan as the shipyard celebrated 60 years of yacht building surrounded by one of the largest collections of its yachts ever assembled for competition.
