Joani Jacobs and the Mrs South Africa team will lead the search for South Africa’s next international pageant star
South Africa’s next Miss Supranational representative could come from anywhere in the country. A new leadership team is now preparing to find and develop the woman who will take the national title onto one of the world’s biggest international pageant stages.
Miss Supranational South Africa is officially entering a new chapter under the directorship of Joani Jacobs and the experienced team behind Mrs South Africa. The organisation will launch a national search and development programme ahead of South Africa’s next appearance at the prestigious global competition.
The appointment marks a significant milestone for the local pageant, four years after Lalela Mswane made history by becoming the first South African to win the Miss Supranational international crown in 2022.
Building on Lalela Mswane’s Legacy
For Jacobs, the mission goes beyond selecting a winner. The goal is to develop women who can thrive on an international platform long after the competition ends.
“There is something incredibly exciting about what South African women can bring to this competition. Lalela’s win showed that we can compete at the very highest level. We now have the chance to build on that legacy and give the next woman the kind of preparation and support that allows her to really make the most of everything that comes with it,” says Jacobs.
What Makes Miss Supranational Different?
Founded in Poland in 2009, Miss Supranational has grown into one of the world’s leading international beauty competitions. The pageant forms part of the annual Festival of Beauty in Nowy Sącz and attracts contestants from across the globe, along with millions of television and online viewers.
Unlike many pageants, judging extends far beyond the final stage. Contestants are evaluated throughout the competition through interviews, public appearances, professional conduct, and their overall engagement with audiences. Strong communication skills, digital presence, and authentic audience connection have become just as important as runway confidence and stage performance.
Delegates also participate in From the Ground Up, the organisation’s social impact initiative that highlights the work contestants are already doing within their communities and how they plan to use the platform to create meaningful change.
A Focus on Development, Not Just Selection
Jacobs believes the Miss Supranational South Africa programme should prepare women for the opportunities that follow an international title, rather than focusing solely on the competition itself.
“Winning should be the beginning of the journey, rather than the destination. Our role is not simply to prepare someone to win a competition, but to prepare them for what may follow from having that international platform, and to help them understand how they can use their influence meaningfully,” she says.
An Experienced Leadership Team
Jacobs brings more than two decades of experience in the modelling and pageant industries. She founded Ace Models International in 2005, which has expanded to more than 30 franchises, and has led the Mrs South Africa organisation since 2011.
She will be joined by an experienced leadership team that has helped shape some of South Africa’s most respected pageant programmes.
-
Madelain Roscher, CEO of PR Worx, joins as shareholder and will oversee public relations.
-
Cindy Nell joins as shareholder.
-
Marlene Reddy-Ribeiro will lead operations.
-
Jacqueline Ferns and Matapa Maila will serve as board members.
The new organisation will build on the proven selection, development, and operational systems already established through Mrs South Africa, providing a strong foundation for future contestants.
National Entries to Open Soon
Further details on entries, castings, and the national selection process will be announced in the coming months.
Until then, the new leadership team says its priority is creating a programme that gives South Africa’s next Miss Supranational representative every opportunity to succeed internationally while building a legacy that extends well beyond the crown.
