King & Conqueror Premieres on M-Net as CANAL+ Rolls Out Epic Series Across 40+ Countries
A Landmark Global Television Event
M-Net is set to bring international television audiences a major historical epic with the premiere of King & Conqueror, launching on 12 February at 9pm. The series forms part of an unprecedented simultaneous rollout by CANAL+ across more than 40 countries in Europe and Africa, marking the first large-scale multi-territory launch for a CANAL+-licensed drama.
A Battle That Shaped History
Set against the turbulent backdrop of 11th-century England, King & Conqueror revisits the dramatic events following the death of King Edward in 1066. With no clear heir, Harold of Wessex and William of Normandy are drawn into a fierce struggle for the English crown, culminating in the Battle of Hastings—a clash that would alter the course of English and European history for centuries.
Star Power and Creative Pedigree
The eight-part British series stars James Norton (Happy Valley, Playing Nice) alongside Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones). They are joined by an accomplished ensemble cast including Emily Beecham, Clémence Poésy, Juliet Stevenson, Eddie Marsan and Jean-Marc Barr.
King & Conqueror is created by Michael Robert Johnson and executive produced by Johnson, James Norton and Kitty Kaletsky for Rabbit Track Pictures, alongside Baltasar Kormákur and Magnus Vioar for RVK Studios. Additional executive producers include Robert Taylor, Dave Clarke, Richard Halliwell, Ed Clarke, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and CBS Studios’ Lindsey Martin. Direction is shared between Coster-Waldau, Kormákur, Balint Szentgyorgyi and Erik Leijonborg.
M-Net’s Global Moment
Waldimar Pelser, Director of Premium Channels at MultiChoice, describes the launch as a milestone for the broadcaster, noting that the series represents a first-of-its-kind global content rollout in partnership with CANAL+. The ambition and scale of the production, he says, are expected to resonate strongly with South African audiences.
