JW Marriott has unveiled the JW Marriott Mount Kenya Rhino Reserve Safari Camp, a luxury safari retreat set within Kenya’s renowned Solio Game Reserve

Located between the slopes of Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Ranges, the new camp introduces a wellness-led safari experience where guests can reconnect with nature while enjoying refined luxury in one of East Africa’s most celebrated wildlife destinations.

The opening marks another milestone for Marriott Bonvoy’s luxury portfolio, combining conservation, wellness and contemporary design in a private conservancy known for protecting one of Africa’s largest populations of black and white rhinos.

A safari experience rooted in conservation

Spanning 45,000 acres, Solio Game Reserve has earned international recognition for its pioneering rhino conservation programme. Alongside its thriving rhino population, the reserve is home to lions, leopards, zebras, waterbuck, Thomson’s gazelles and more than 300 bird species.

Guests can explore the conservancy through sunrise and sunset game drives led by expert guides. Night drives reveal another side of the wilderness, with opportunities to spot spotted hyenas, servals and elusive caracals after dark.

Design that disappears into the landscape

The camp features 19 tented suites, including an exclusive two-bedroom suite, each positioned for privacy with panoramic views across Mount Kenya, the Aberdare Mountains and nearby waterholes.

Designed by LW Design, the architecture draws inspiration from the quiet strength of the rhino. Low-profile timber and canvas structures blend into the surrounding landscape, creating a sense of understated luxury rather than imposing on nature.

Roll-up canvas walls blur the boundary between indoors and outdoors, while private plunge pools and freestanding bathtubs invite guests to immerse themselves in the scenery.

Inside, the interiors celebrate Kenyan craftsmanship through woven textiles, hand-carved timber and artworks from local makers, including Kitengela Glass, Safari Bronze and Ceramiqa.

Shared spaces are equally considered. The Map Room helps guests plan each day’s adventures, while the library, games room and boutique create relaxed spaces to unwind between experiences.
