Ford’s 2.3-litre EcoBoost Joins Ranger and Everest Line-up

Ford’s 2.3-litre EcoBoost Joins Ranger and Everest Line-up

Ford South Africa is making exciting updates to its local powertrain offerings, headlined by the addition of Ford’s 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol engine for the award-winning Ranger and Everest.

Alongside this major introduction, the 3.0L V6 turbo diesel will expand into more derivatives to complement the proven 2.0L turbo diesel. Consequently, the 2.0L Bi-Turbo diesel will be phased out as part of this revised strategy.

Engineered for Performance

The introduction of the acclaimed petrol unit provides customers with a compelling new option, delivering a blend of strong performance, advanced technology, and enhanced driving refinement.

Although a proven performer in other global vehicles, the 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine has been specifically tuned for the Ranger and Everest in this market.

This turbocharged, direct-injection, inline 4-cylinder engine features a lightweight aluminium block and turbocharger. Generating an impressive 222 kW of power and 452 Nm of torque, it ensures responsive delivery across a broad rev range. Drivers can expect smooth, efficient performance, as the engine is paired with Ford’s advanced 10-speed automatic transmission.

Updates to the Diesel Range

While the petrol variant grabs the headlines, the robust 2.0L turbo diesel engine receives a significant upgrade with a new timing chain for improved durability. This ensures customers retain a capable and affordable powertrain option. For the first time on XL and XLT models, the 10-speed automatic transmission featuring an updated calibration will be available.

The sought-after 3.0L V6 turbo diesel will soon be offered on a wider range of models, which will be the subject of a future announcement.

‘Looking ahead, Ford is positioning itself for the future and meeting the demands of tomorrow’s customers. The 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine offers a distinct character, providing exhilarating acceleration, a more dynamic driving feel, and a smooth experience that will appeal to those who prioritise responsiveness.’

Motorists can expect this revised lineup to arrive in the first half of 2026.
