Disneynature’s “Orangutan” Premieres on Disney+ This Earth Day, 22 April 2026

An Intimate Journey Into the Rainforest

In celebration of Earth Day, Disneynature’s all-new feature film “Orangutan” debuts exclusively on Disney+ on 22 April 2026. Narrated by Josh Gad, the immersive documentary offers a powerful and intimate look at one of nature’s most remarkable species.

The film introduces viewers to Indah, an inquisitive adolescent orangutan learning how to navigate life as she prepares to leave her family and venture out on her own for the first time. Set high in the treetops of Southeast Asia’s majestic rainforest canopy, the story unfolds within a magnificent and mysterious community filled with playful personalities.

A Fresh Perspective on a Beloved Species

Directed by Mark Linfield and co-directed by Vanessa Berlowitz, “Orangutan” is produced by Linfield, Berlowitz and Roy Conli, with original music by Nitin Sawhney. The film promises exhilarating action, heartwarming encounters and a close-up look at a stunning jungle teeming with wildlife.

Director Mark Linfield shared his passion for the project, noting that after three decades of filming wildlife around the world, orangutans remain his favourite animal. Describing them as gentle, funny, smart and always surprising, he added that Josh Gad’s narration captures their spirit while the camera team reveals a whole new side of their lives that audiences may never have seen before.

Why Earth Day Matters

Releasing the film on Earth Day underscores its conservation message and global relevance. Orangutans, native to Southeast Asia, face increasing environmental pressures, making stories that highlight their intelligence, emotion and habitat all the more significant.

By combining cinematic storytelling with an authentic look at rainforest life, Disneynature continues its tradition of celebrating the natural world while inspiring audiences to value and protect it.

Streaming on Disney+

“Orangutan” launches exclusively on Disney+ on 22 April 2026. In South Africa, Disney+ is available from R49 per month for the mobile plan and R159 per month for the premium plan, offering subscribers access to a broad library of films, series, Originals and documentaries.

The platform also includes robust parental controls, allowing subscribers to set access limits on mature content and create PIN-protected profiles for added peace of mind.

This Earth Day, audiences are invited to journey into the rainforest canopy and experience a moving coming-of-age story that celebrates one of the planet’s most extraordinary primates.
