A Song Born From Love and Resilience

South African singer-songwriter Amy Tjasink returns with her moving new single, Shadows of the Sun.

The radiant release is deeply personal. It was inspired by her father’s life-changing stroke and the unwavering bond they continue to share.

The single is also the lead release from Amy’s highly anticipated upcoming album, Valley Girl, arriving on 14 August.

For Amy, the song reflects a journey through heartbreak, healing and hope. Her father, her greatest supporter and earliest musical inspiration, survived a stroke that permanently changed his life, leaving him mentally and physically disabled. In an instant, everything shifted.

But their connection – and the dreams they once shared – remained unshaken. That experience became the emotional foundation of Shadows of the Sun.

“My dad has always been my biggest supporter,” Amy shares. “Music was something we shared and it was both of our dreams. Even though so much has changed, that belief hasn’t gone anywhere. It’s still with me every single day.”

Carrying a Dream Forward

Rather than focusing on loss, the song is rooted in legacy. It speaks to Amy’s commitment to carrying both her own dreams and her father’s forward through music.

It is a reminder that love endures, even when life changes beyond recognition.

“For me, Shadows of the Sun means that even in the unknown, and even in places that feel a little scary, I’m never really alone,” she says. “My dad would follow me anywhere, just to make sure I’m okay. That kind of love doesn’t disappear. It stays with you, guides you, and gives you the courage to keep going.”

The Next Chapter After Feels Like Mzansi

The release follows Amy’s breakout success with Feels Like Mzansi.

The track climbed to No.1 on Good Hope FM, earned her a performance at the SAFTAs, and connected with audiences across South Africa.

While Feels Like Mzansi celebrated identity and home, Shadows of the Sun reveals a more intimate side of Amy’s artistry. It is vulnerable, reflective and quietly powerful.

With this release, Amy Tjasink continues to cement her place as one of South Africa’s most compelling emerging voices.

A First Look at Valley Girl

Shadows of the Sun offers the first glimpse into Amy’s forthcoming album, Valley Girl, arriving 14 August.

If this single is anything to go by, the album promises a beautifully layered exploration of identity, resilience and personal transformation.
